The Um Salal Central Market has a dedicated livestock auction area as well as a slaughterhouse with the capacity of up to 1,000 heads per day.

Hassad, Qatar’s premier investor in the food sector, has said that Um Salal Central Market has become an inte-grated marketing platform, offering all basic commodities such as meat, fish, and vege-tables, to serve the needs of all categories (trader, producer, and consumer) — with the aim to contribute to achieving food security, as well as support local products.

Hassad has fully developed the Fish Market located inside Um Salal Central Market according to the latest interna-tional standards.

The market currently includes 62 fish shops, an auction yard, as well as fish cleaning section, visitors waiting area, and an ice factory to meet the needs of traders. In a continuation of the fruitful and successful cooper-ation between the Ministry of Municipality and Hassad; the Ministry has recently inaugurated the local products’ yard in Um Salal Central Market, while Aswaq for Food Facilities Management (a sub-sidiary of Hassad) developed and fully equipped the yard, which includes 44 counters dedicated to selling local produce.

Mubarak Al Sahuti, Exec-utive Director of Business Rela-tions, Hassad Food, expressed his happiness with the fruitful cooperation between the Min-istry of Municipality and Hassad in several strategic projects, which aim to support the local market.

He pointed out that this cooperation is a model for suc-cessful strategic integrations between state institutions. Al Sahuti further explained that Um Salal Central Market is an integrated marketing platform, which includes all basic consumer goods such as meat, fish, vegetables, and others, to satisfy all the needs of consumers during their visit to the market.

In line with Hassad’s plan to support local breeders; the company dedicated a suitable space within the market, to hold an auction for owners of live-stock farms. Moreover, the central market includes a private slaughterhouse with a pro-duction capacity of up to 1,000 heads per day (under the man-agement of Widam Food), in addition to livestock barns, veg-etables and fruits shops, multi-service shops, cold stores, supermarket, mosque, and a number of administrative offices.

Um Salal Central Market is located at the intersection of modern and central highways (Al Majd and Al Shamal), which connects the market directly to the main ports in Al Wakra, Al Ruwais, Al Khor and Doha, that supplies nearly 80% of the fish to the market. Moreover, the market is close to many high-density areas, which makes its location convenient for all categories — traders, producers, and consumers.
